Built to Endure: Beeman’s Ash Credenza
Paul Beeman, Albuquerque, New Mexico
Forged in the tight quarters of a one-car garage and shaped by the challenges of a new climate, Beeman Woodworks' ash credenza is a triumph of persistence, learning, and craftsmanship. As his first major piece after relocating to Albuquerque, the credenza presented more than a few surprises—from adapting to the quirks of wood in the high desert to mastering a host of new techniques, including lumbercore panels, shop-sawn veneers, L-tenons, and traditional joinery.
“The big ash credenza was a real battle,” Beeman recalls. “It sort of dominated my life for several months.” But through trial, error, and a whole lot of head-scratching, the piece came together—earning its place among the beautiful objects in a Portland home, crafted for close friends and made to last a lifetime.

High-end Wood Finish that preserves wood's natural tone
Finished with Polyx®–Oil Tints 3051 Raw Matte, the credenza shows off ash in its most natural state. “It’s such a good finish,” says Beeman. “I love ash and wanted something that would keep its true tone. I saw Sam Whyman @whymanfurniture use it and it’s been my go-to ever since.”
“It takes a genuine fight to produce one well designed object of relative permanent value.” — George Nakashima.
For Beeman, this piece embodies that fight—and the lasting reward.
